“It’s All Art” Weekend Exhibition

15 - 17 Feb 2019. Free Entry

Imagine immersing yourself amongst beautiful artworks from local and international painters, photographers, musicians, sculptors, animators, jewellers, performers and more who will be exhibiting in the main auditorium and throughout the cafe gardens of the iconic complex that is the Nimbin Bush Theatre. This inaugural exhibition aims to highlight the importance of Art, whatever the discipline, and the strength of collective exhibitions within artistic communities. We believe everything can be Art if approached with the right intentions. Hard work, passion and perception are the main ingredients for art  - no matter what mediums are being used.

On Sunday from 10am the exhibition continues with the musical collective known as Sonic Bliss who play gypsy world fusion to create a stunning feast for the ears. (come for breakfast!). At 1pm roots behemoth Daryl James performs his earthy acoustica with gritty guitar and blues infused songs.

The Nimbin Bush Theatre Cafe will be open all weekend serving scrumptious creations adorned with natures gifts from our gardens all weekend. The outdoor misters will be gently cooling the outdoor dining areas, we have a kid friendly playground, all on the banks of the beautiful Mulgum Creek. BYO.

David Zeker - Curator/Artist.

David Zeker is a Multidisciplinary Street artist, born 1995 in Rotterdam, Holland. He started out doing graffiti at the age of 13, making his first Illegal works in the suburbs of Rotterdam. It started with simple tagging but as soon he did his first piece he knew he wanted to immerse in the adrenalised world of the street artist. At age 16 he began studying formally, and it was during this time he met with active graffiti artists that motivated him to develop his style. By age 18 he was exploring abstract paintings on canvas with spray paint, exploring working with acrylics and working around the clock on art works incorporating digital techniques and T-shirt printing. With a Street Art mentality he began giving himself challenges such as 100 rough sketches within 24 hours using over any materials available that could be used as canvas. Age 19 he travelled across Europe with the purpose of painting trains around Europe’s train yards and subway tunnels.  This resulted in some great Art, 5 apprehensions for public graffiti, and a few injuries accessing remote graffiti locations and running from authorities. He developed his style further at this time, moving from letters to abstract forms and characters. With an already huge body of work created, at age 21 he was offered a position at an elite art academy, but chose the lesser known path of travel, exploration, and of course, more street art. Traversing Europe and Asia, he landed in Bali for 3 months where he painted murals every day, sometimes two or three. Moving on to Australia he met up with street artists from Melbourne. They showed him around galleries, art studio’s and alleyways, further inspiring his creative journey, resulting to his first solo gallery exhibition for Dodgy Paper. By the time he left Melbourne he was an inspired Mural artist, armed with his sketch books and spray cans he made his way to Nimbin and has since been the artist in residence at The Nimbin Bush Theatre, busy with the decoration of the venue and cafe. This is his first exhibition as curator.

James Ozawa - Photographer   (Sponsored by Kodak Alaris, Japan)

James Ozawa was born in 1987 Sydney, Australia but grew up mostly in Tokyo, Japan. In 2010 he attended Sydney University and around this time was assistant photographer under Japanese photographers Gorta Yuuki and Gaku Yamaya. Under this inspired tutelage in 2011 he secured an exclusive contract with Japanese magazine publisher, Medium Inc. Moving between Australia and Japan as a freelance photographer, Ozawa has also published a book of photographs entitled “The Dreamer”, printed and published in Japan. For this exhibition Ozawa will present a projection exhibit also named and based on ‘The Dreamer”, an 8 minute show of portraits and landscapes from Nimbin and its surrounding landscape, designed to share the magic of love and the knowledge of life taught by nature and to be true to ones self in this life.

Heather Elwell - Exotic Wearable Art.

From an initial commission in 2011 - crafted from deep onyx and snow white pearls - Elwell discovered a passion for exotic and ethnic tribal jewellery. Also a teacher and enthusiast of West African drumming Elwell had long held a fascination with the tribal arts, and jewellery pieces seemed a natural progression. In April 2017 she collaborated with Maschek Designs exhibiting an exclusive jewellery collection to compliment Laureen Maschek’s Resort wear at the Byron Bay International Fashion Festival. In October 2017, she exhibited at the Radiant RAW Artists Showcase at Lennox Heads - featured in the Nimbin Hills magazine. Using rare beads, semi precious gems assembled using interesting and ancient techniques she creates jewellery that can be called art, each one has a unique story and providence from many tribal cultures around the world. After 3 years of development Elwell has launched Exotic Elegance, an online gallery of her bold and beautiful art www.exoticelegance.store

Tim Laird - Geometric Art.

Tim Laird says he is fascinated by geometry “because of the connection and knowledge it has when you look at the base form of creation of humans and plants on this earth, you’re merely a recurring geometric pattern expanding into the infinite void of the Unmanifest”. Laird began sketching geometric patterns a few years ago, this fascination expanded into him constructing his visions onto canvases. He sites the endless possibilities of patterns and forms created with shape, symmetry and precision as part of his inspiration to keep developing this form of his Art.

Jessi-Jane Luna - Sculpture.

Luna works with clay, creating figurative and abstract sculptural pieces, influenced by mythology, folklore, Goddess culture, artifacts and the beauty of nature. Her art is modern, yet has echoes of ancient and classical forms, her sculptures celebrate the female form in it’s many manifestations, both figurative and spiritual. "For me art is a door way into my soul, a way to be in touch with the deepest parts of Self. It takes me on a very healing and spiritual journey”.
