January 26 is a day where we wish to acknowledge the amazing Survival of the Oldest race on Earth, in the face of one of the worst genocides in history. One of the greatest honours we have as Australians is to live in a country that the Indigenous custodians looked after so well for over 60,000 years. Our recent history, since colonisation, has not been a time we are proud of as far as our treatment of our Original Brothers and Sisters goes. Hence, for January 26 at the Nimbin Bush Theatre we choose to celebrate the survival, against massive odds, of this amazing culture and it's people.

Starting at 12pm we will have a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country with our local Elders. These ceremonies are very moving and powerful and are a chance to learn something from our original Elders, as well as a chance to be purified with the eucalyptus smoke, which feels wonderful. With stories, dancing and ceremony we are so proud to be able to offer this to the community as a way to show our love of Aboriginal Culture.

At 1pm we present the rootsy blues of Craig Atkins.

Award Winning Multi-Instrumentalist Craig Atkins is a unique 'one-man band' songwriter and performer based in the Byron Hinterland (Bundjalung Country), with his set up consisting of various Acoustic Guitars, Lap Slide, Didgeridoos, Harmonica, Foot Percussion and Loop & Effect pedals.

With influences such as Paul Kelly, Joe Purdy, Harry Manx, Xavier Rudd and numerous Blues Masters to name but a few, Craig's passionate and honest live performances weave through various styles of Roots, Blues, Folk, World & Country, with dynamics ranging from chilled finger-picking folk stories, to delta slide blues, through to rollicking folk foot tappers and stomping jumping roots, with lyrical content covering his aspects  of life, love and loss and observations of the world we all live in.

With solo performances (and various other musical projects) at Ocean Street World Festival (QLD) Byron Bay Guitar Festival (NSW) Peats Ridge Festival (NSW), Port Fairy Festival (VIC), Caloundra Music Festival (QLD), Wide Open Space Festival (NT) Gorgeous Festival (SA) and solo supports for Steve Kilbey (The Church) and Donovan Frankenreiter (USA) to name a few, Atkins is a musician that should not be missed.

The Cafe will be open all day serving great food with a bushfood twist, treats, snacks and yummy cold and hot drinks.
